Human Resource Development Specialist company, Celestial Self Development Centre and Phone Bay Inc., a mobile phone retailer and repair company have emerged winners of the inaugural PROCOM Challenge.
Launched in April 2016, the competition targeted micro and small enterprises with novel ideas for improving productivity and competitiveness in areas related to energy reduction, compliance solutions to meet quality standards, improving business processes and reducing operational costs through the use of technology.
During a cheque presentation ceremony held at the Ministry of Finance in October 2016, the awardees received their cheques. Dr. Ubaldus Raymond, Minister in the Ministry of Finance who offered some brief remarks at the Presentation Ceremony, indicated how pleased the Government of Saint Lucia was to fund this NCPC initiative. He said, " It is critical to support innovation in the private sector as innovation is considered to be one of the key drivers of improved productivity and competitiveness.
This Challenge was conceptualized to be a catalyst to innovation by incentivizing local entrepreneurs to develop innovative solutions to some of the productivity and competitiveness challenges affecting the business community." Fiona Hinkson, Executive Director of the NCPC offered some very encouraging words to the awardees. She said, " We recognize your talent and commitment. We encourage you to continue the hard work to improve your productivity and competitiveness." With the grueling application process over, businesses are currently preparing to roll out their projects in early 2017.
The Council will not only be providing post-challenge technical assistance but also monitoring and evaluation the individual projects.
